It’s that time again! Time for NBA Summer League! This is a time for teams to develop existing talent & to scout players from around the world as they try to break into the league. This will be many players’ first experience as professionals, and others will be returning for yet another stint in familiar surroundings.
NBA Summer League is broken up into three events in three locations: Orlando, Florida (click here to view my article on Orlando); Salt Lake City, Utah (click here to view my article on Salt Lake City); and Las Vegas, Nevada. In this article, I’ll be talking just about Las Vegas.
All NBA teams are represented in at least one location; some travel to multiple events. Those teams sometimes will have different rosters at each event. These teams are made up of recent draftees, NBA G-League team members, international players, & others who have earned a tryout. There is no guarantee that you will see any certain player during every game, or any game. This is for getting a good look at the skill level & the professionalism of each young man. It’s fast-paced & very competitive because many of these players are fighting for a career. Also, as in Orlando, there will be a championship at the close of Las Vegas Summer League.
The schedules for the entirety of NBA Summer League Las Vegas have been released & can be found below, after the roster information. Games will overlap during Las Vegas Summer League, so you’ll have to get creative with how you watch if seeing every game is your goal! From the NBA’s press release:
ESPN will present all 67 games from Las Vegas across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and the ESPN App, including 35 on its linear television channels. NBA TV will air 28 games, starting with the league’s opener on July 7, when the Toronto Raptors meet the New Orleans Pelicans at 6 p.m. ET. In total, 63 games from Las Vegas will air across ESPN and NBA TV’s linear channels – a Summer League record.
In past years, select games have been rerun on NBA-TV in the evening & overnight hours as well, regardless of original broadcast host.
Rosters have been finalized for all participating teams, so let’s take a look at who we might see on the floor in NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
